Moonstruck

At some point in my adulthood, my mom started signing cards and letters and ending telephone conversations by writing and saying, "I love you to the moon and back." In the last year of her life she said it constantly--whenever she said goodbye to us (me, my siblings, my dad) as we left for the evening or for the store or for work. I wondered--even though we never talked about her dying--if it was her way of saying she would love us infinitely, even from the grave. I think so. I hope so. I don't know for sure, but it makes me want to fill Sabine's room with these paper moon lanterns.
