Remember this Benetton advertisement? This is what New York City feels like. And, I guess, childhood.

Laura Mauk: I've written and/or edited for Paper, Bookforum, Allure, Architectural Digest and Western Interiors & Design magazines. I'm now married and a mama. My family is one part Mexican, Scottish and Danish (that's me); one part West Indian (my husband is from the British Virgin Islands); and two parts all of the above (my not-so-spitting images, Sabine and Zadie). In the words of one of my in-laws, we are "all mixed up." This is a record of our life and adventures--currently, in the city of Baltimore.
